Church Lane Road Closure May 2024
Church Lane will be closed in both directions from May 7th to 28th for essential works at the nearby Severn Trent Water treatment plant.
Hixon Parish Council has taken the lead in ensuring road safety is prioritised and that traffic movements are controlled and congestion minimised.
Hixon Parish Council has been able to use local knowledge to influence and guide the measures needed to ensure everyone is safe during what will be a very difficult time for pedestrians and drivers.
While Church Lane is closed, New Road will be the main artery into Hixon and leaving the village.
The A51/New Road junction will have four-way phased traffic light control and temporary 30mph speed limit at all approaches. This will certainly add to the line of traffic leaving Hixon in the afternoon.
There will also be four-way traffic light control at the intersection of New Road/Church Road/Martins Way/Featherbed Lane. The lights will be set back from the intersection to enable large car transporters (up to thirty movements each weekday) to negotiate the turn. The delays at this junction are likely to be longer than the delays at the A51.
HEX car transporter movements will be re-scheduled to miss St. Peter’s School morning and afternoon busy times. Further afield, there will be advance warning signs at Wolseley Bridge and Weston, plus enhanced HGV 7.5 ton weight limit signs at the A518 at Stowe-by-Chartley.
Best advice is to limit the number of your journeys and to allow more time for essential journeys.
