Parish Council tackles flooding problems
Following a number of incidents of roads flooding in the village, Hixon Parish Council appointed a specialist contractor to clear some of the worst blocked drains. Over 60 drains were cleared in one day at a cost of £850 plus VAT to Hixon Parish Council.
There was immediate benefit to properties in Church Lane where the following day’s rainfall was safely drained away. Hixon Parish Councillors will continue to monitor the situation after the heavy rainfalls.
Staffordshire County Council highways should really be paying for the drains to be regularly inspected and maintained, but the authority has cut back the frequency of drain clearing, leading to more incidents of flooding.
