Mayor of Stafford and Staffordshire Cricket Star set to open new cricket facility

Hixon’s latest sporting facility at the Church Lane Sports & Recreation Ground is to be officially opened on Saturday 21st March.
Stafford Mayor, Cllr Jenny Barron, will perform the ribbon cutting ceremony at 12 Noon to signal the first cricket bowling and batting taster session led by Lucy Shenton, Captain of Staffordshire County Cricket Club.
The taster session is free to attend and open to all ages; it will be great to see lots of young boys and girls come along and try some batting and bowling. No need to bring anything, all equipment is being kindly loaned by Staffordshire County Cricket.
Lucy Shenton said she is looking forward to “turning her arm over” on the new strip and said “this is an amazing facility for a small village that hasn’t got space for a full size cricket ground. The surface is of the highest standards and has the approval of the English Cricket Board. You normally only find this quality at long established cricket clubs. I’m positive it will inspire young people in Hixon to be attracted to cricket and the sporting values it promotes. Fabulous job!”
Cllr Barron said she was delighted that Stafford Borough Council had played such an important role in helping the project to be completed at no cost to Hixon Parish Council or local residents. “This a fantastic use of £ 22,000 of Section 106 developer contributions in Hixon. Well done everyone who helped make it happen.”
