Making Hixon’s road safer
Hixon Parish Council is to install a Speed Indicator Devices SIDs) at four key locations in the village. The four locations are New Road (opposite entrance to Steel Service Centre), Church Lane (near St. Peter’s School), Lea Road (between Ashlands and Swansmoor Drive and Church Road (on public open space).
Each location will have a 3 metre high pole with a solar panel at the top. A Speed Indicator Device will be installed for two or three weeks at a time before being moved to one of the other three sites.
SIDs flash up the speed of approaching vehicles with a message. Vehicle travelling within 30mph limit will flash a ‘Thank you’ message. Drivers driving over 30mph will get a message to ‘Slow Down.’
It is hoped the devices will be in place before the end of March.
